
Lake Gaston is a 34 mile long, 20,000 acre Lake that was created with the construction of the Lake Gaston Dam in 1963! The widest point of the Lake is around 1 1/2 mile wide, and the Lake has around 350 miles of shoreline! The average depth of Lake Gaston is 40ft, though it can get as deep as 95ft! Dominion Energy owns the Lake and controls the Dam, which has a total generating capacity of 224 megawatts!

Lake Gaston is stocked with Striped Bass, Large Mouth Bass, Crappie, Sunfish and a few varieties of Cat Fish! Though Walleye, Yellow Perch and Chain Pickerel have also been caught! There has even been a 121.9lb Blue Catfish caught there, back in 2020! Since Lake Gaston spreads through two states, you can fish from a boat with a license from either North Carolina or Virginia.
